What’s the first image that comes to mind when you think about getting a medical sleep test? For many people, it’s an image of a patient trying to sleep while hooked up to enough tubes, nozzles, and electronic gadgets to run a power plant. It’s not exactly inviting, it’s a scenario that’s even been used in tense sci fi movies.

However, there’s no need to sleep in a pod full of wires and tubes like in the movie “Oxygen” (photo courtesy of Netflix).  Who can sleep well under those kinds of conditions?

Fortunately, that kind of test isn’t the only one anymore. Discovery is easy for most people. As easy as wearing a smartwatch to bed. At Bettendorf Sleep, one of Dr. Black’s preferred methods of testing is an in-home device called the WatchPAT™ ONE by Itamar Medical. It’s a device similar to a smartwatch or fitness tracker. It takes only a few minutes to get used to wearing it, then you can sleep peacefully in your own bed.

The morning of the next business day, all the data collected by the device will be sent via a HIPAA-approved and secure data transfer to Dr. Black. A full report will help determine the available options to improve your sleep and overall health.

When it’s that easy, there’s no reason to hold back from getting checked out. If you snore, are tired during the day, or have any of the other symptoms associated with mild to moderate sleep apnea then it’s worth taking the test. To learn more, watch a video here or get in touch with us when you’re ready to take the test.
